Working Paper 2.1

Deeply Concerned about the atrocities committed in the Darfur region of Sudan,

Recognizing the ideals of both the Darfur Peace Agreement and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1706,

Respecting the national sovereignty of the Sudanese state,

Commending the noble efforts of the current African Union peace-keeping outfit,

Alarmed at the threat of sanctions against the Sudanese state,

Cognizant to the dangers associated with inactivity,

The United Nations Security Council;

1. Zestfully Pledges to continue efforts to peacefully influence the Sudanese government in order to further advanced cooperation between the member state and the international community,

2. Recognizes the challenges facing the current African Union peace-keeping outfit and;

a. Commends the actions of the Sudanese government in extending the African Union mandate,

b. Pledges to increase the flow of monetary aid to the African Union peace-keeping outfit,

c. Encourages the international community to provide training and necessary equipment including, but not limited to, fuel, transportation devices, and advanced communication devices,

3. Refers the issues surrounding refugees to the UNHCR,

4. Acknowledges the blatant disregard of the current cease-fire and thus,

a. Proposes the creation of an Arms for Seeds exchange, for the purpose of supplying struggling farmers with desperately needed supplies in exchange for their weaponry and,

b. Reiterates United Nations Security Council Resolution 1706 Operative Clause 8a, which establishes buffer zones pursuant to the Darfur Peace Agreement,

5. Pledges to remain actively seized on the issue.
